Why a Foundation?

By creating a Public Library Foundation (a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization) the community is taking an active step in building proactive community partnerships and vocal advocates for the library.  A foundation is differs from the traditional “Friends of the Library” efforts by involving non-library users as well as library patrons to increase awareness of library services and resources throughout the entire community.  The non-profit status of a foundation provides a platform for raising money and support for current and future library services/programs as well as securing a financial future for the library.

Community Partnerships help the library become “the hub” of the community while helping the library to identify community needs.  Advocacy and support for the library is built through community partnerships which provides a “voice” for the library and helps to touch the lives of non-library users.  A Public Library Foundation is a way to coordinate partnership and advocacy efforts as well as funding current library efforts and ensuring the library’s future.

The Foundation is overseen by a community-based board of directors.  Money raised by the foundation does not belong to the library or the city/county and is not subject to governmental control.

Mission Statement

The Bloomfield Public Library Foundation is committed to enhancing and widening the programs and services of the Bloomfield Public Library system beyond the means of public funding.  To advocate and raise funds for the public library system in Davis County.  To make Andrew Carnegie's vision that a library is the hub that educates, stimulates, and invigorates its community, come true.  To be an advocate for learning and the betterment of the community through library networking, promotion, sponsorship, and otherwise supporting library initiatives and service development for our community's benefit.

Aims & Objectives

The Bloomfield Public Library Foundation's primary objective is to promote education and learning in Davis County and thereby foster an educational, literary and intellectual culture in Davis County. It aims to help Davis County residents obtain education and learning opportunities through proactive methods and to cultivate an enlightened ethos in the Davis County society at large. It also aims to promote culture and tradition and undertakes other charitable activities which contribute to the welfare and knowledge base of the public at large.

All activities of the foundation will be networked throughout a multitude of Davis County entities using the Bloomfield Public Library as a hub for the community.  To increase value and reliance on the library as the main source of information, research, and entertainment  materials through physical and electronic environments.  To be the primary instigator and promoter of activity and constant stimulator of our community as a whole.  To support and encourage through available resources, existing and future entities whose activities promote a betterment for society in the realms of literacy, education, fine arts, and social skills leading to a more vibrant and learned community.

Vision

To be a major creator of economic growth and stimulation in our community through effective services and programs provided through the Bloomfield Public Library system to all residents and entities throughout Davis County, improving quality of life and strengthening the communities' skill base.  To cause further incentive and attraction to persons and entities outside of our community that they may consider Davis County to be an environment suitable for residence and business activity, therefore increasing prosperity and economic/social stability within Davis County.  To have an effective and efficient network infrastructure of businesses and organizations supported and constantly stimulated by the Bloomfield Public Library as the hub, the heart of a prosperous and vibrant community.

Fundraising

The Bloomfield Public Library Foundation is a nonprofit community Foundation being founded to promote, facilitate and implement collaboration between public and private funding sources in support of ensuring outstanding public library services.  Money raised by the Foundation supports programs that cannot be provided by the operating budget of the Bloomfield Public Library as provided by tax dollars. These programs are sponsored or hosted by the Foundation and its generous donors.

The Foundation will also provide funding to the Bloomfield Public Library to enhance its facilities, programs and services, both traditional and technological, beyond what tax dollars provide.

* It is important to note that Foundation funds are not used to replace or supplant city or county funding.  City and county funding is obligated at this time to the library's basic operational needs only.
